About elena
(pronounced e-lane-nah)
Commencing her phenomenal musical journey two years ago, indigenous singer songwriter elena is currently touring Australia performing her original music prior to heading off on a tour of the US and Canada in 2005. Her inaugural CD "Rivers of the Soul" was launched in December 2003.
Originally from New Zealand, elena discovered her voice and songwriting talent while living on Magnetic Island, near Townsville in North Queensland, Australia. Her material and voice were so well received that she decided to reach out to festivals throughout Queensland and is now venturing interstate, touring Australia wide.
elena's passionate and powerful voice, reminiscent of Tracy Chapman or Toni Childs, and her acoustic 'upside-down' guitar combine to create a magnetic performance that is brimming with energy. She has a wonderful talent for engaging with her audiences, whether large or small. Through her performances she hopes to "empower others to empower themselves."
Written from the heart, her songs echo her passion for the environment, women's and indigenous issues. Her diverse experiences from teaching in rural Queensland and a Juvenile Detention Centre to living on Magnetic Island and witnessing the struggle to preserve the environment and community in the face of tourism and development are reflected in her lyrics.
Leading by example elena challenges us by all to be true to ourselves, play with our inner child, be passionate about the important things and have an excellent time along the way!!
