Description
"Debutante Hip-Hop" is the trend of the day according to Hot Sauce Records recording artist ellee ven and it's the way she describes her sound. Born Jessica Kunin, she graduated from Pepperdine University with a masters degree before 'a moment of clarity' spurred her to start Hot Sauce Records her Hollywood based independent label. Through it, she personally manages her career and reinvented herself under the moniker of ellee ven, a play on the number 11 which represents two equals in perfect union. Her roots lie in vocals jazz, but her lush, luxuriant fusion of rock, rap and soul has earned her glowing comparisons to indulgences like martinis and massage tables and to artists from Bjork and Lenny Kravitz to Diana Ross and Prince.
Her forthcoming album release (due January 2005), FUNKY BOHEMIA is a potent fusion of dance jams to ballads created by a trio of handpicked producers including superstar turntablist DJ SWAMP, Antony Lee and Tracy Bartelle. "Every one can relate to the things I'm talking about. It doesn't matter if you live in a dump or a castle. Sometimes I say it fast. Sometimes I say it slow. It's definitely not meant to communicate confusion, but directness".
2004 has had ellee ven focused on touring nationwide promoting ELEVEN BY ELLEE VEN and writing, recording and co-producing her fourth and confessed favorite album, FUNKY BOHEMIA. "It's really the ultimate of what I'd call "groovetonics". It's lots of easy soul with rock and groovy electronica. It makes you move. It makes you feel good. It's just about human experience. Growing up, learning to be honest with yourself, speaking up....."
Songs from her first release THE ELEVENTH HOUR have been placed on CBS and MTV. Two songs from MIND CONTROL charted on A/C charts and ellee ven's been nominated by NEW MUSIC WEEKLY for Best AC40 Female Artist for her work on that album. ELEVEN BY ELLEE VEN was a CD/DVD and third release that focused on 4 music videos directed by award winning Eric Zimmerman (the director behind Nine Inch Nails' videos "Down On It" and "Head Like A Hole"). Her collaborators include Adrian Peritore (aka Guy Perry )of The Motels, Terry Santiel (Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige), Reggie Dozier (Kenny Rogers, Outkast, Shelby Lynne), DJ Swamp (DJ for Beck, Fuel, Crystal Method) and Prodeje of South Central Cartel. With an ethnic background (Spanish, Greek, Russian, German and Italian) as diverse as her music, this renaissance girl is poised to make a mark on the face of contemporary music.
