Description
Compared to indulgences like martinis and massage tables, and artists like Bjork, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa Stansfield and Sade, ellee ven describes her own luxuriant fusion of rock, rap, soul and electronica as "groovetonics." With a unique sound, passion for music and growing accolades, this once certified educator turned musician, has evolved into a trend setting artist and has spent the last four years tip toeing and finally climbing the charts on the Indie music scene.
Her forthcoming album release (due March 2005), FUNKY BOHEMIA is a potent fusion of dance jams to ballads created by handpicked producers including superstar turntablist DJ SWAMP (Beck's DJ from 1996-2000 and contributor to albums by Kid Rock, The Crystal Method & Morcheeba), Antony Lee, Reggie Dozier (Outkast, Shelby Lynne, Justin Timberlake, & Kenny Rogers) and Tracy Bartelle.
ellee ven's Spanish, Greek, Russian, German and Italian background lends ethnic nuances to her already unique sound. "Every one can relate to the things I'm talking about. ", says ellee ven.
Born Jessica Kunin, ellee ven graduated from Pepperdine University in 1998 with a Master's Degree. Soon after, a "moment of clarity" spurred her to start Hot Sauce Records in 2000, her Hollywood based independent label. Through it, she personally started her career and reinvented herself under the moniker of ellee ven.
ellee ven's decision to put down her thesis and pick up a microphone proved to be the right decision. With an optimistic response to her first 2001 album, The Eleventh Hour, ellee ven released a second album less than a year later. Mind Control gained her two nominations and her third release, Eleven By ellee ven. was a DVD/CD focusing on four music videos produced by award-winning director, Eric Zimmerman. In stores now is Rolling Stone, a four-track sneak preview of her fourth album, Funky Bohemia, is already topping DJ charts worldwide.
Believing that anyone can make a difference though art, her annual Give Into The Groove event features a fusion of art, music and technology for a good cause. "I always wanted to do something for others through artistic expression," says ellee ven. "Art has the power to really influence people's lives." This year's event will benefit the American Red Cross.
Experience groovetonics; a luxuriant fusion of rock, rap, soul and electronica, signature to Hot Sauce Records' artist ellee ven. Now living her dream of sharing her music worldwide, she says, "Nobody can change yesterday, but everybody can start today and change tomorrow."
