Description
"Secret Weapon Volumes 1 & 2," is Marcel's fifth release on his own label, Bombay Recording Company. Along with the release will follow tour dates for his first world tour promoting all of his material from 1998 to the present. This tour will take him through 13 U.S. cities, Europe, and Japan. This tour is all about building a large fan base and giving back to the communities along the way.
Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele was born June 21, 1972, in the Bay Area of San Francisco, California. He began singing at the age of 5, and by the age of 11 had taught himself how to play several instruments. Marcel is heavily influenced by Prince and MeShell N'degeocello.
January 15, 1998, Marcel released his first CD titled, "The Diary of Marcel" on his own recording label, Bombay Recording Company. He produced, arranged, composed, and performed all of the material. He toured the Bay Area and promoted the CD by doing in-store appearances in Tower Records, The Wherehouse, Sam Goody, and Rasputin.
May 15, 2001, Marcel released his second offering,
"Spice : The Alternative Hip-Hop Experience." "Spice" was released in various record stores on the West Coast including Tower Records and Sam Goody's. "Spice : The Alternative Hip-Hop Experience" has a more developed Hip-Hop, R&B sound with an added mixture of Funk, Rap, Old School, and Futuristic rhythms.
Since the release of "Spice : The Alternative Hip-Hop Experience," Marcel has been on the front cover of Disc Makers Magazine and continues to be featured in the magazine on a regular basis, received internet distribution with The Orchard, and has been nominated for the "Just Plain Folks 2002 Internet Awards." Sales have been generated via Internet in Japan and Italy. Recently, the song "Spice" was added to a Japanese Cable Network Program in Japan.
November 15, 2003, Marcel released his third offering, "Uptown : 2025 A.D." Marcel's mission on this CD is to find "Love & Trust" and to bring back those elements to a planet in search of utopia.
April 15, 2004, Marcel released his fourth offering, "Uptown : 2025 E.P. The Remixes" that contains the HOT remixes of "You're The Love of My Life," I've Got To Know...," and the outstanding remix of "Mother Earth." "I've Got To Know..." was in rotation on The Upper Room with Joe Kelley, an Internet radio station based in Connecticut. Prince also featured this radio station on his website, which was a high point for Marcel!
August 25, 2004, Secrect Weapon is released. Inspired by Prince and MeShell N'degeocello with a very funk influenced concept. Marcel feels that this is his funkiest CD ever! If you enjoyed Prince's Dirty Mind, Sign O' The Times, and LoveSexy time periods, then this CD is for you!
Marcel is a well-rounded musician whose mission in life is to be true and honest to himself and to help communities come together. Marcel views his music as a gift from the universe that should be appreciated as art, and what will remain true is his love and passion for music.
