Description
Mariah Picot has released her debut jazz vocal CD, "Notes on the Bridge...", with the Bill Peterson Trio. She describes it as, "jazz influenced art songs with a spiritual perspective." The thirteen song CD is comprised entirely of Mariah's original music & lyrics, except for five compositions written by Bill Peterson. Recording was done in Tallahassee, where Peterson is a professor of jazz studies at FSU. The rhythm section was completed by two wonderfully gifted Boston musicians who are graduates of the Berklee College of Music, Jeff Denson [bass] and Ronan Itzik [drums].
Jon Hibshman, co-owner of Vision Quest Gallery in Panama City, did the painting for the cover. "I gave Jon a list of all the visual images in the lyrics and he came up with this incredible painting, " says Picot. "The songs are really "scribblings" on the journey, as the title suggests. Peterson had the perfect sensibility for them with just the right balance of sensitivity and virtuosity. " The CD is filled with heart, soul, humor and depth that comes from a lifetime of experience in the arts.
