Description
MarsupiaL (mar. su. pi. al) n. 1.An all original electrogroovin', psychofusion, rock band from Asheville, NC. 2. Any member of an order (Marsupialia) of mammals such as kangaroos, oppossums, etc. , of whose females typically lack a placenta carrying their young in a marsupium or pouch.
The name MarsupiaL was chosen to symbolize a common philosophy about making music: to realize a creative organization that was based on the virtues of a tight knit family, and keeping the music in the pocket. The different members of MarsupiaL bring an eclectic range of influences and experiences to the creative table, making it possible to delve into any stylistic territory available. In short, MarsupiaL's music is an original blend of technical precision and spontaneous improvisation.
Since it's inception in October of 1999, MarsupiaL's goal has been to spread their creative musical vision to a diverse group of music lovers through the use of all media possible. In association with Discfunctional Family Entertainment, MarsupiaL has created a buzz around the Southeast U.S. and elsewhere about their grassroots based organization. This introduction has been accomplished by distributing thousands of free CD's, MP3's, and playing as many live shows as possible. In addition to playing numerous headlining shows, MarsupiaL has had the pleasure of opening for such bands as Schleigho, Bloodkin, Bellyfull, ulu, Strut, Deep Blue Sun (featuring David Blackman), and The Jerry Garcia Band (featuring Melvin Seals).
Discfunctional Family Entertainment was started by J Ferris and his wife, Kyley, in 1997. It was shortly before this that J and members of the band formed a friendship based on a common musical vision that eventually led to the birth of MarsupiaL. DFE focuses on live sound reinforcement and recording, studio recording, mastering, and video production. MarsupiaL and their live shows are fully supported by DFE in all aspects. It is this relationship between Discfunctional Family Entertainment and MarsupiaL that has helped to bring the band
