Marv Machura
The No-bull Autobiography
Hi, I am Marv Machura, a singer-songwriter from Alberta, Canada. I write and perform Western Canadian Roots Music: If there were such a commonly used term, I would be "Canadiana"...the northern version of "Americana."
I have been playing music semi-professionally around Alberta since I was 15. That's more than a few years ago! But it's really only since the past few years that things have really been taking off for me. This is because I never had a professional CD release until last year!
The disc Diamonds for Fields of Clover has done very well: there are less than 400 copies of the original pressing left! Also, the disc has been critically well received, getting radio play across Alberta (and some in Europe). Penguin Eggs, Canada's folk music magazine, said I was a "winning singer and talented guitar player."
This coming year, I'm looking forward to touring with my new release: Big Hill King.
In my twenty-five years of performing, I've lead bands and also played in others' groups. I also published 20 songs in Nashville during the mid 1990's.
Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson, and John Denver are my big three "deep" influences; currently I am influenced by artists like Fred Eaglesmith, Lyle Lovett, and Steve Earle.
My goal is simply to keep writing and performing the music that I love: you won't see me on Canadian Idol, but I hope that we can meet sometime down the road: maybe at a tavern, pub, house party, dance, folk club, or festival...and be sure to have a good time!
Thanks for your interest in me and my music. See you soon!
Note: my name is pronounced Ma-chra, as in "mature-a."
"...can you see yourself reflected in the seasons; can you understand the need to carry on?" - John Denver
