Description
Monica Marquis is an independent soul/jazz musician based in San Jose, CA. She performs her original music on voice and keyboard with her quartet locally, has sold CDs internationally, and has had airplay on Connecticut's online radio show "The Upper Room With Joe Kelly" (featuring her hit song "Forget You" off her 2004 released CD "This is Me".)
Monica's musical education started early in her life. She studied classical piano from age 7-21, after which she majored in music at San Jose State University where she studied improvised music of world cultures. Her focus was on vocal performance, but she also studied Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, and West African percussion.
Monica has been performing for over a decade in local clubs, restaurant lounges and private events in the Bay Area. She also works as a studio vocalist.
She writes soul, jazz, pop, and R&B originals which she performs with some of the Bay Area's most talented jazz musicians. She composed and arranged all the music for her CD "This is Me" and co-produced it with Adam Rossi (of Adam Rossi Audio). She also did all the vocals and vocal arranging on the album.
Her musical influences are diverse, and include anything from Punk, to Rock, to Brazillian Jazz, Neo-Soul and Electronica.
Currently, she is exploring the genres of House and Dance music, as well as Trip-Hop and Neo-Soul. But also she is fascinated with modern-day singer/songwriters who fuse many genres. She is inspired by these artists, and hopes to follow in their footsteps breaking new ground in music.
Monica Marquis is so far living up to the dream, as her album "This is Me" provides a crossover of genres, textures and moods. Audiences find her music catchy and even addictive to listen to. And they will be thrilled to know she is currently working on new songs for her next album.
