Cris Williams: Biography
High energy yet down-to-earth, Cris Williams infuses her music with funk, folk and rock to render a style that is entertaining and personal. Her vocals are Sarah McLachlan meets Evanescence, yet her voice is distinctive. Whether you just listen to the music or you love to hear the lyrics, Cris has something to offer.
She perfected her live performance playing in bars and touring on the weekends during college at the University of Florida. Her music and personality grew and changed through these experiences and close friendships. After graduating, she dedicated herself to traveling and sharing her art with other people.
Vivid, accessible, and fiercely introspective, Cris has made the transition from solo acoustic guitar and vocals to touring with a full-band to playing as part of an acoustic duo with lively arrangements to move any audience. She loves the warmth that acoustic guitar lends to her live performance, and her honest and funny live shows make you feel like you're in her living room for a personal, exciting concert.
Her latest project, "... on the inside," rings with instinctive melodies and words written with poetic twists of intimate acoustic style. The driven, independent songs beg the question, how did she just sing what I've been thinking?
The Gainesville, Florida-based "songstress" hails from the same fertile music scene that gave the world Tom Petty, Sister Hazel, Less Than Jake and other nationally acclaimed bands, and she matured in her hometown by performing in a variety of venues. The Independent Florida Alligator newspaper listed Cris Williams as one of Gainesville's most popular bands, but her friends know her as someone who loves to perform her songs, explore the world, and meet new people.
About performing and writing she said,
"I write to entertain and enlighten. I write about life as seen through the cloudy lens of my own experience. Music is the bright light that pierced through all the dark places I've been. Music is a universal thread that ties human beings together: we dance, we cry, we laugh out loud."
