Description
First it was a historic film classic, then it was the most important live stage event of the 21st century, now it's a stunning theatrical recording and aural delight. DEBBIE DOES DALLAS has been recorded for posterity by Sh-K-Boom Records (www.sh-k-boom.com).
In addition to the songs in the show that The New Yorker calls a "saucy, tongue-in cheek romp," the recording contains scenes, cheers, sex, bloopers and karaoke. Producers of the all-nude cast recording (and we have the pictures to prove it) often wondered aloud why there wasn't more sex, bloopers and karaoke on the recordings of "Man of La Mancha" and "My Fair Lady" and have now rectified the troubling situation that has plagued cast albums since their conception. Feel free to picture the recording studio filled with naked people. That will include the engineers so you may want to reconsider. Producers describe the DEBBIE recording as "a cross between South Park and the National Lampoon comedy albums of the 70s."
The soon-to-be-classic songs include: "Debbie Benton," "Small Town Girl," "The Dildo Rag," "I Wanna Do Debbie," "Ten Dollars Closer: Parts 1, 2 and 3,"
"God Must Love a Fool," "Dallas... I'm Coming," and a soaring ballad not heard in the show - "Where I Need To Go" (Debbie's Theme). This song will make Celine
Dion weep for the memory of her ditty from "Titanic."
Sh-K-Boom is an independent label that bridges the gap between pop music and theatre. DEBBIE is Sh-K-Boom's third cast recording, following The Last Five Years, Jason Robert Brown's award winning musical which also featured Sherie Rene Scott, and Michel Legrand's Tony-nominated Broadway debut Amour. (www.sh-k-boom.com)
Composers: Andrew Sherman, Erica Schmidt, Tom Kitt and Jonathan Callicutt.
The cast is Sherie Rene Scott (Debbie), Paul Fitzgerald, Mary Catherine Garrison, Caitlin Miller; Tricia Paoluccio, Del Pentecost, Jon Patrick Walker and Jama Williamson.
Based on the American film classic, DEBBIE DOES DALLAS is a coming of age story about a group of ambitious young women who want nothing more than to help their friend Debbie get a spot on the Texas Cowgirls cheerleading squad. Based on
the timeless script, this production takes major liberties with the world renown film, and adds original contemporary music, and of course - cheers. They're cheerleaders!
