BIOGRAPHY
DulceSky captures the fleeting feeling of waking from a dream and finding yourself caught in that hazy state of mind between consciousness and slumber: You're not sure if the swirling sounds in your head are real or imagined, and you don't care, because they're familiar, inviting, and sumptuous. They remind you of an updated hybrid of underground British trench coat pop and the massive, cascading guitar washes of shoegaze bands past. Whatever the influences, they sound like now.
Fueled by the desire and imagination of brothers Oliver (guitar, vocals) and Daniel Valenzuela (bass, backing vocals), and supported by the powerful drumming of Mitchell Razon and the moody atmospheres of keyboardist Dannika, DulceSky infuses life into the tired state of modern rock.
The full spectrum of DulceSky's sound is displayed on their recent Film EP. "Keep Coming Around" is a study in tension and release. It begins with a spare bass line and shimmering strums. Then it slowly builds to a soaring chorus that morphs into an exhilarating, textured wall of melodic guitar noise. On the other end of the spectrum, "Ride With Me" displays an almost breezy pop sensibility. Its major key melody is stick-in-your-head catchy, and its clearly chiming guitars create a dreamy ambience. It's one of those songs that sounds instantly familiar, yet wholly original-as if it's always existed and all Oliver Valenzuela had to do when composing it was pluck it out of the classic-songwriting ether and call it his own.
DulceSky resides, records and gigs in Salt Lake City. They are currently planning their first tour of the West Coast where their music will continue to blur the lines between waking consciousness and a dreamlike state.
