Description

We performed at the Westin Rio Mar Beach Hotel in Puerto Rico in the late 90's when it first opened. It was a nice room with a Yamaha baby grand piano. We alternated with the Carli Munoz trio playing soft jazz, standards and cabaret for an appreciative audience.

After six months, a bright new food & beverage manager decided he could improve his bottom line by switching to a one man merengue band with sequenced rhythm tracks. Well that's the way it goes with the corporate mentality.

We moved on to the Ritz Carlton for what was to be our last lounge gig. Aboout that time Valli and I decided that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em so we formed our own Mama and Poppa entertainment agency, booking music and shows for the corporate convention trade.

Valli handles most of the booking and I concentrate on recording and distributing my Latin Jazz piano CDs of music by Puerto Rican composers. Sometimes we miss the good old days as there is nothing like the joy of doing what you love to do every night for an appreciative audience. We still perform for conventions and private parties but leave the lounge gigs for the kids with their sequencers. Now I know how the dinosaurs felt.
