Description
BELIEVE, the second solo album by Bau Down, is a collection of urban music that ranges from club songs such as "Dosey Doe", Wile Out & "It's On Tonight", to deep songs about his life and the death of his twin brother on the tracks "Never Know" & "March 6th, 1983".
I named this album BELIEVE, before I had even sat down to write one song, because it was a time when I needed to prove to myself that music was what I really wanted to do, and I needed to BELIEVE in myself in order to be successful at doing that. The strange thing about was that it wasn't until work went underway, writing songs and recording, when I truly realized how complex and deep the word BELIEVE really was.
About two years in the making, the album had enough tracks to be released in Spring of 2005. However, being a true perfectionist, he was not quite satisfied and removed about half the original songs in order to make room for new ones. "I had to much going on, and was growing too fast musically to put out the album last year" he said, "I would keep finishing new tracks, and they kept cancelling the others out. It was getting to the point in the fall of 2005, where the album was almost completely overhauled, and I didn't want that. I felt I was at a place in December 2005, where I could put it out, and it had the exact sound and energy I wanted to represent with the music on this album. The rest of the songs that did not make the cut he said, went to mixtape collections, and a few moved to the future release of his third album in the works, Extracurricular Activity, which is scheduled to be released in November 2006.
Bau Down has faced his share of adversity as alot of musicians do coming up. Very close long time friends turning on him because of the path he had chosen, made it real hard to carry on. Yet, to this day he maintains a positive attitude towards the future, and what he looks to accomplish and has already accomplished. I have come a long way, but most importantly, I would love to see my music embraced by people who appreciate good music from someone that is real, and not someone pretending to be what they think people want them to be. Also, by people who listen to a variety of music. I listen to all types of music regularly, from the great 2Pac and my boy Eminem, to Dave Matthews Band, Techno, Boyz II Men and The Mamas & The Papas. I think it is stupid to limit yourself because that limits your creativity, and its an amazing thing have the ability not to. It gives me a different side to show in production, and in songwriting, that these other musicians who listen to one style of music just don't have.
He has a very strong opinion about alot of musicians, underground and mainstream today as well, saying The majority of musicians today, especially in the urban music scene are just so fake, because they think that will get them rich and famous. That is all they care about, getting rich. They think rap is the easy way out in life...and believe me, they have no idea how hard it is. On the other hand, the few who are real and are who they say they are in their music, do nothing out of the ordinary. The music they make conforms to what they think people want to hear, which is fine. Conformity is easy...its the easy way out. I could not tell you how many times people told me I needed to go the route that Eminem went to blow up big, being controversial and everything. The only thing I have learned to say back to the people that say that to me, is that if I have to pretend to become successful, then that is not where I want to be. If other musicians dont have enough confidence to be themselves and stand out, and do something different, then they shouldnt even try. I know who I am, and what I have to offer listenersif they can relate to me showing who I really am, sing along with my music and hopefully take something out of it, than that is one of the best things I could ever accomplish.
BELIEVE is a must have album for true hip-hop listeners. No matter your taste, the album will undoubtedly stay in your CD player for an extended period of time, you will most likely find yourself singing along, your friends will ask you where you got the album, and you probrably won't hesitate to tell em'. BELIEVE is a destined classic. Order it today, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

**About Bau Down: The Biography 2006**
Kevan Michael Bauman (Bau Down) & twin brother Carsten David Bauman were born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 11th, 1982. Seven months later, Carsten passed away from of a complicated heart problem. After the loss of his brother, Kevan was raised in Birmingham, Alabama - until the age of 6, when his moved to a suburb of Chicago, IL...where he still lives in the present day. His experience in music goes back to being a young kid and hanging out in his grandfathers recording studio in Skokie, IL. His grandfather, Verne Engblom, had a Music Recording and Publishing Company named Chordcraft. (www.chordcraft.com) It was there that he had his first experience with music creation and action behind the microphone.
In grade school, he continued with an interest in music by acting in musicals, and auditioning for movie roles. As a young man, his musical interests consisted of listening to oldies on Oldies 104.3, a Chicago based station. As time moved on, his interest extended to more urban music which was at the time exploding into the music scene, artists such as - K7, Tag Team, LLCoolJ and most of the music on the Chicago radio station B96.3, took his musical interest too new places. In late grade school, his brother exposed him to the art of Tupac Shakur. The music drew his attention in a different way than much of the music that he had previously listened too. It was uniquely deeper than much of the music of the day. It sparked an interest in him that he did not ever previously consider. However, it wasn't until mid high school when he discovered a passion deep enough for Hip-Hop music to take a stab at writing and creating his own music. Senior year of high school was a turning point in his life. As with everyone, important decisions had to be made. For the time being, his new found passion for music had to take a back seat to a college education. Conversely, as he attended school @ Concordia College - New York, his interest in music took hold of the steering wheel. It was there that he spent more time during the day and night writing and composing songs on his desktop computer, than he spent on school work. As the school year came to an end, his grades were fine, and with all the hard work outside the classroom, he had many songs ready to hit the wax. In the summer of 2003, he completed his first album, "Another Perspective". Despite the lack of sales, about 300 sold...the album was a huge accomplishment leading him to work hard all day everyday on his music from then on. With his strong faith in himself & God, he vowed to continue his dream in the name of his brother, who did not ever get the chance to chase his.
His music is quite unique in many ways, consisting of meaningful lyrics, and great instrumentals and production, which the music industry in lacking today. Many will be able to connect with him being himself in his music, and not who people want him to be - demonstrating something different in todays urban music scene. For this reason, many artists have looked to collaborate with Bau Down to advance their own careers. His effort, growth, production and music over the years has been astounding, and has caught the attention of many industry professionals and artists alike. Though a major record deal has not yet taken place, he has his own agenda in finishing school first, and using his dedication and talent in advancing his grandfathers company and his affiliates into the future.
He is currently attending school full time @ Valparaiso University, Indiana - and also runs his record label Bau Down Records, under the late Verne Engblom's company - Chordcraft. Producing himself and others, maintaining his website and working hard in school, there is little time at the moment for big time promotion and shows, but his production work in the studio does not cease.
With the recent release of his second and brand new album "BELIEVE", as well as other Bau Down Records artists releases coming this year, 2006 looks to hold endless possibilities for Bau Down and his affiliates. -www.baudown.com
