Description
Name: Jeanine
Occupation: Boss
Nickname: Lady J
Birthday: March 4
Hometown: Chicago (of course)
Favorite Food: Macaroni & Cheese
Favorite Color: Changes depending on my mood but right now I'm really into green.
Back-story: I moved to NYC in 2002 on a whim with no money, no where to live, a CD and a lot of nerve. Anthony Hamilton found me singing in a Philadelphia nite club the weekend of the unplanned move. We recorded "I'm a Mess" in July of 2002 before he landed the So So Def deal. That song ended up being the 3rd single off of his Grammy Nominated Album Coming From Where I'm From. In 2003 I won the Abe Oleman Award for Excellence in Songwriting from the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and BMI. I'm now the President/CEO/Owner/Boss of Sorority Records, LLC. I DO IT BIG BABY!
Favorite Artists: Chaka Khan, Tupac, Lauryn Hill, Jodeci (Devante is a genius), Missy, Anthony Hamilton (he put me on), Stevie Wonder, Cheri Dennis (that I love us song is nuts), Jeanine (I'm a boss), The Polo Team, JTorae, Outkast, Kanye West, Fiona Apple, Talib Kweli, Consequence (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly is one of the illest songs ever recorded), Jay-Z, Kelis, Nas, Beyonce, SWV, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige and last but never least Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holiday. People I want to Meet: Oprah, Jesus (no time soon)
My Hair: I have enough to wear my own and still be sexy. I like braids and I wear them often.
My Peoples: Jacque (Dr. Buckley to you), Genine, Adrice, Kia (time out notwithstanding), Lorie, Mrs. Richardson, Drea, Demetria, Malachi, Ms. Lily, Maurice, Kween, Ms. Jackie, Tosha, Saeeda, Davonna and Karen.
My Family: Uncle Sam, Aunt Loretta, Nina, Ray, Lena, Barbara, Lil' Sam, Quincy & Family, Shawn & Family, Darwin, James & Family, Keith & Gretta, Uncle Terry & Aunt Jerry, Monk, Tim, Pooh, Mary, Marilyn, Rochelle, Cousin Shirley, Uncle James and last but never least my honey bun Ashley, Granny, Mommy & Daddy (You guys did a fabulous job!) I will never forget the ancestors that have made the transition (Grandpa Smith, Granddaddy Owens, Aunt Mildred, Uncle Buzzy and Aunt Mary who instilled a love of learning, excellence and high achievement in all of her nieces and nephews. May they all rest in peace.)
