Description
John Wood of Kidzmusic.com says, "Positive, wholesome, folksy songs that hearken back to a kinder gentler time-engaging vocals and pleasant arrangements abound."
Laya takes children's music to a whole new level in her debut CD "Goofy Silly Crazy Wacky Day." Original, clever lyrics and music, crisp clear vocals, and beautiful harmonies combine to make this a children's CD unlike any you've ever heard. Each song is unique and richly accompanied by full instrumentation. Genres include Country, Rock and Roll, Blues, and Blue Grass.
"I began performing as a singer/guitarist quite a few years ago and sang in clubs in California and Hawaii. When I married I became a stay-at-home Mom and raised 4 daughters. I sang for schools for a number of years, and began writing my own songs. When I would come into the classrooms, the kids would all yell out, "do the zoo song!" (the first song on the cd). At the time that was my "number 1 most requested song". I have had kids come up to me recently and say, "I remember when you used to do that song about the zoo". This was 12 years ago when they were 4 years old!
I love the challenge of writing songs with very unexpected endings. You can't tell from from the clips here how they come out, but I guarantee several songs will totally surprise you.
In our house we always had between 15 and 22 pets. One of my daughters is a real animal fanatic and the song "All the Animals" was originally titled "Danielle's Song" for her.
I got the idea for "The Zoo Song" when we lived in San Diego. There really was a sign that said, "Please don't Let Our Goats Go Home With You" in the petting zoo. It got me thinking, "Hmm... what if the goats really did go home with us".
"Pet Rock" is a take-off on the country western girl (or guy) gets jilted theme. "Can You Tell Me?" talks about the importance of listening to kids even when you don't know all the answers (who does?). "If kids Made the Rules" is just fun. "Don't Go Out and Leave Me with the Babysitter" says it best with the line "Why do parents have to go out and have fun, after all they're not kids anymore".
I love trying to see things from a child's perspective which is why most of my songs are written in the first person. "When I put on "Messy Room" for a 2 year old at my house, she immediately disappeared and went to get a broom to sweep the kitchen! "Remember I Believe in You" is most of the things I think are important to teach a child.
Hope you enjoy the album.
