Description
Maggies Choice is an independent rock band located in Portland, Oregon. The bands textured, original music is delivered through a mixture of acoustic and electric guitar sounds, spacey piano and floating vocals and harmonies.
Primary songwriters Abe Cohen and Mateo Bevington began playing together in 1999 as part of the acoustic-oriented band Casa Del Bev. After three years of writing and performing, the duo had developed a healthy catalog of original material. In 2002, they joined with Mateos brother Sean to experiment with a more electrified sound. Chris, a long time friend of Seans and an accomplished vocalist, soon joined the band on bass. After several months of gigging in small Portland clubs, the band wooed Marian to join them on piano and keyboards. Marian, who had played with various styles of jazz and modern piano since a young age, added a subtle texture to the bands sound.
In 2003, Maggies Choice released their self-titled debut album. The release garnered many positive reviews both regionally and nationally. A description from the Alternative Culture Guide magazine reads - Maggies Choice weighs in with one of the stronger debuts in recent memory ... strong songwriting and smart delivery are this band's forte.
In September of 2004, the band released its second album, the 6-song EP tale for free. According to 2 Walls Webzine, the EP shows the band has a thicker, more complex talent ... songwriters Abe Cohen and Mateo Bevington pen lyrics that could stand alone as poetry or free verse '" working beautifully within this atmospheric and spacey music.
In January of 2006, the band releases its third independently produced album thoughts of june.
Unlike the previous releases, this 9-song album was recorded entirely in the bands home basement studio with the help of Pro Tools digital recording equipment and a couple of local Portland engineers. Without the rush and pressure of being on the clock in the studio, the band was able to capture its most cohesive and album to date.
