Martha Ann Brooks has "the heart and soul of a true storyteller". Her songs are grounded in traditional folk music but have unique, contemporary elements that keep them fresh. The quality of her voice and playing allude to the influences of Guy Clark, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and other similar artists. Her performances draw people in, touch their hearts and leave them wanting to hear more.
Born in Montgomery, AL, Martha Ann has lived in Georgia since early childhood. She cannot remember a time when she did not make up songs and sing. She grew up in Augusta, GA, graduated from the University of Georgia and moved to Atlanta where she began her career as a solo artist. After a successful year playing solo, she expanded her act and performed with bands for the next five years, garnering a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year from the Atlanta Society of Entertainers along the way. Martha Ann put her musical career on hold in order to spend more time with her family and to focus on her other creative endeavor, painting. Moving to Northwest Georgia in 2004 reawakened her passion for music and she began writing and performing again.
Currently, Martha Ann is receiving excellent response to her songs and performances at house concerts, festivals and songwriter-in-the-round events.
The many requests she received for CDs of her songs prompted her to release Simply. She wants people to have an accurate representation of her performance when they listen to her album so the production is very organic, not overly produced. New songs are being added regularly to her website as well.
