PATRIA ANORADA
Known among his friends and fans for an eclectic instrumental piano style that spans the neo-classical and stream-of-consciousness improvisatory playing, Nazario surprised everyone with his critically acclaimed debut of original songs in Spanish. The tunes range across the Latin-American landscape, from Tango influenced Bolero, to Samba and 'Nouveau' Salsa.
The basic tracks were laid down in three days with a crack team of Mexico City's top session players. These guys burn... Vocals, texture and b.g. instrumentation were done by Nazario in Los Angeles in another three days. The result? Patria Aorada stakes out new territory in multi-genre Latin music, combining great songwriting with lyrics that possess narrative drive and veer into poetry. This is dancing music you can listen to and listening music you can dance to.
"...Fresh and inventive." -Larry Harlow
'Patria Aorada' (literally, "longed-for homeland") is a collection of 11 songs in a variety of styles, each very original and very personal..."This is not [strictly speaking] salsa or plena or bomba...The listener can hear salsa, bolero, samba, ranchera, jazz in the music, but it has traveled far to assume the shape that reaches your ears from this collection. Each song is different, each is thoughtfully composed, but it is the poetry of the lyrics that really stands out.
"...the soul that comes through, the heart that he brings to every phrase, more than makes up for any shortcoming. The band is excellent and well led by Nazario. He recorded this CD in a relatively few days of studio time in Los Angeles and Mexico. Patria Aorada is a beautiful album, unlike anything you've ever heard..."

About Rafael A. Nazario
Known among his friends and fans for an eclectic instrumental piano style that spans the neo-classical and stream-of-consciousness jazz playing, Nazario surprised everyone with his critically acclaimed debut of original songs in Spanish. The tunes range across the Latin-American landscape, from Tango influenced Bolero, to Samba and 'Nouveau' Salsa.
For several years Nazario was the resident pianist at 72 Market Street in Venice, CA., supplying jazz, classics and "sophisticated improvisational piano" (national magazine quote) in what was then one of Los Angeles high-voltage, show-biz clientele spots. At any given time anyone could be in the room; Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Lee Ritenour, Lalo Schiffrin, Randy Newman, Sting, Yoko Onothe list goes on, but who cares? you get the point. It was a great venue.
Japan, Mexico...the world
Nazario spent two years in Tokyo, in jazz clubs in the Roppongi district, playing swing, stride and jazz standards. For the last few years, Nazario was based in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he wrote, arranged and produced the songs on Patria Aorada.
Currently living in Australia, Nazario is preparing the release of his upcoming instrumental jazz/classic/electronica CD, entitled "FortePiano." Following that stay tuned for his next vocal CD, "Soador."
