Description
I began my musical herstory at the age of four singing in the church with the Roberts family. By the age of six I began singing solo. My family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1970 where I joined the church choir. I enjoyed singing but for me something was missing. I left the church and stopped singing until 1994. In 1994 I found a new love, drumming. I joined the Moyo Nguvu Cultural Arts Center and performed with them as a dancer and vocalist for 1 year. I had been bitten and smitten and I wanted more. In 1998 I took up drumming off and on. By 2001 I was more serious about drumming and began to devote my time and money to the drum. Once more serious my skills quickly improved. I was the lead drummer for Irepo Afrikan Dancers and Drummers. I also performed with Jambalaya, a womens, drum ensemble playing djembe accompaniment. Still needing more, I formed the Watoto Afrikan Dancers & Drummers, a childrens ensemble in 2003. The Watoto was an eye opening experience. Not only was I lead drummer but I also taught drumming and some African culture. This made me aware of aspects of my own journey around the drum that I did not like. Drumming should be done out of love for the drum not a desire to make money. Drumming should be done for enjoyment and as a method of connecting with the ancestors and ones own spirit. I was no longer enjoying drumming and I did not want to release such toxic, negative energy into the atmosphere, so I have temporarily put my drums aside. I cannot say if I will ever put out a drumming CD. I will return to drumming and do have plans to add a song or two to my CDs. For now I plan to go where I am lead.
I broke my own cherry with the introduction of SLEEPLESS. Now I'm busy in the studio making music that many have come to know and love me for. SLEEPLESS was experimental and quite educational. Keep it as a limited edition. You really appreciate the growth that is quite evident in the 2nd CD coming out soon. Deliberating producing less than a 1000 copies they will hopefully be collectors items one day. That was a futurist gift to you my fans that you could hopefully own something from me that might be worth even more one day. I think of you all and your wallets.
I hope you like "SLEEPLESS. Everything you hear on my CD is from my own talent. I wrote all the lyrics myself. I produced, arranged, and engineered all the musical compositions. My children and I created the graphics. It has been a family project of love.
Thank you for allowing me to come into your hearts, home and :o)
bedrooms. Much love.
