Description
Pat Morris - Pats style combines elements of rock, jazz, fusion, funk, classical and reggae in a unique blend. Pat began playing guitar at age 10. During his teens he studied classical guitar with Josef Raposo of the New England Conservatory of Music, and jazz and theory at the private studies program at Berklee College of Music in Boston. In his late teens he toured the East Coast and Canada with the funk & soul bands Brothers Six and Kith & Kin, opening for acts such as Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and recorded backing tracks for R&B singer Margo Thunder. After moving to California in 1979 Pat studied with local jazz legend Dave Creamer, and played throughout California with rock and fusion bands such as Elements, Hot Face, Mystery Train and Automatic Blue, and with the roots reggae band George & the Wonders. Pat did session work at Fantasy studios with producer Paul Harvey for A & M and Warner Bros. Records, and with the band Automatic Blue recorded with John Lee Hooker, and has recorded with the legendary reggae guitarist Hux Brown.
Keyboardist Jim Knowles began playing professionally in his teens and has been making very nearly minimum wage ever since. When not diving dumpsters for dinner, he backed R&B artists Jimmy McCracklin, L. C. "Good Rockin" Robinson, and toured with It's a Beautiful Day founder David LaFlamme. He's shared the stage with artists such as Big Mama Thornton, Larry Graham, John McLaughlin and Jorma Kaukonen, scarfing great backstage spreads and, get this, free beer, and has recorded at Wally Heider/Hyde Street and Fantasy studios. Knowing no better, he hooked up with Pat and Tim in the Bay Area jazz fusion band Elements and rock band Hot Face.
Tim Cuny - has been laying down a solid beat for over 30 years as a performer and recording artist. Tim grew up in Chicago and cut his teeth in the tough neighborhood clubs that are famous for the defining sound of Jazz, Blues and R&B. - his dentist is forever grateful. His broad experience playing R&B, blues, funk and rock are synthesized in his solid grooves and innovative rhythmic foundation required for Project Greenfield's dynamic sound. Tim studied drums with the incorporation of Tai Chi with master drummer George Marsh. Tim has had the opportunity to play with and shared the stage with diverse musicians including Curtis Mayfield, Canned Heat, BB King, Tommy Castro, Tower of Power, Ann Action and many other Bay Area bands and performers.
Kip Kent - As a 6th grader in San Jose, CA, Kip started his musical endeavors learning to play Hawaiian steel guitar. He was a quick study and within the first 6 months, he was tearin' it up. (On both songs he knew.) It was another 6 months later that he realized no one in the neighborhood needed a Hawaiian steel player. Shortly after that discovery, Kip was at the music store trying to get them to buy back his mistake when he picked up a bass and immediately knew, "this is it". A straight trade and a bassist was born. It was the typical story: playing clubs, weddings, parties, the occassional concert opening and any other gigs that didn't pay enough to make a living. In the thirty some years Kip has been playing bass, he has had the chance to work with or shared the stage with such names as Nick Gravinites, John Mayall, Marshall Tucker, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Cold Blood, Barry Melton, Denny Fongheiser (Tracy Chapman), Jeffrey "Woody" Woodruff (engineer - Natalie Cole "Unforgettable"), Rose Royce, Clifton Chenier, and a ton of other great, unknown Bay Area musicians (you know who you are). And currently, Project Greenfield, where we spoke with Kip in San Rafael at PG's studio and asked him about his role as a bass player. He just smiled and said, "Ahhh, Life on the Bottom".
Pepe Jacobo teaches guitar (acoustic, electric) and percussion (drum set, other). He received his Diploma in Music from the University of Costa Rica. Pepe studied with Stewart Mars and had private classes with Antoni Saroni, Pete Magadini, and others. He creates and performs original music on guitar and percussion with leading groups including Jorge Santana, Mas Cabeza, CALIENTE 2000, and Volcan.
