Description
MIXED DRINKS is the second CD by NEWCLASSIC musician Richard Bellak. (The first is "Fugal Dreams"-12 jazz preludes and fugues for piano) "Five songs"--FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH--will be appreciated by readers of the great fantasy writer, H.P. Lovecraft, author of the epic FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH cycle of poems. The atmosphere ranges from eerie, to gothic, to interplanetary. These songs present H.P. Lovecraft's incomparable word pictures with music that seeks to honor his greatness as a fantasy writer. "Fantasy" (Brass & Organ) and "Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue" (Strings) are purely instrumental pieces, but they have the essence of that same 'Dreamquest' atmosphere. The blues/rock "Jazz Prelude & Fugue" (Piano) adds contrast, while Richard Bellak's interpretation (as conductor) of the brass-accented Finale to Bruckner's "Nullte" Symphony brings a balanced conclusion. This is a really wide-ranging array of musical MIXED DRINKS!
