Description
With the recent release of their debut album Under the Microscope (February of 2006), Ripplegroove has begun to create a name for themselves in the underground jam scene. Often described as a "rock trio" about as many times as they've been referred to as "jazz musicians", their music has been hard to categorize for many. And though at first skeptical about how they would be received by everyday bar hoppers, Ripplegroove has now grown accustomed to fixated stares and growing audiences.
Having first met in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music, Joe Hanley (keys), Tom Burda (guitar), and Jed Devine (drums) began jamming and experimenting with the wealth of musical ideas borne to them through their rich musical environment. Upon finding their way out to San Diego, they lost their bass player, Dana Baccino. Though discouraged to lose such a talented musician, they decided to forge ahead and allowed Joe's left hand to take over bass duties on the keys. This turned out to be just what the band needed, freeing everyone up creatively and allowing the band to change directions on a dime. Indeed, the most common comment after every show is about how HUGE their sound is despite their small 3 piece stature.
Now with regular gigs at some of San Diego's best venues Ripplegroove has become a mainstay on the local scene, while sharing the stage with national touring bands like Vinyl and Brothers Past. However, despite their local success they now feel the need to stretch their wings with a 2006 Summer Tour of the east coast followed soon after by a permanent move to New York City. And with the help of nonstop grassroots promotion, a growing fanbase and a recent release, Ripplegroove is beginning its ascent into the national music scene.
