Description
Cultural Activist MC Erick Santero has brought together an adventurous band of musicians that provide an exciting mix of styles and influences. This recording features some unique blends of musical approaches incorporating cutting edge DJ/turntablist, Mr.E with the soulful voices of Liliana & Rafael Herrera and Scheherazade Stone. Liliana emerges from the Southwestern border region and is equally at ease singing Jazz, R&B, Opera or a traditional Mexican ballad. Scheherazade Stone is already a San Francisco Bay Area legend, lending her voice to numerous recordings with Rock, R&B, World Beat and Latin Jazz artists such as Jai Uttal, Calvin Keys, Cheb I Sabbah and the Hieroglyphics Ensemble. Michael Spiro, master drummer and seasoned studio ace lays down layers of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion along with Hip Hop drum programming of One Drop Scott, the groove behind hundreds of top Bay Area Hip Hop productions.
Producer Greg Landau expands on his experience in traditional Latin American music (Susana Baca, Patato, Pancho Quinto, Quetzal, Bobi Cespedes) creating new electronic elements and textures. Landau's nephew, Camilo, makes his recording debut as a multi-instrumentalist after having apprenticed with musical luminaries such as Omar Sosa, Dr. Loco, John Santos and many others in the United States, Cuba and Nicaragua.
San Francisco based artist SANTERO has performed extensively throughout the United States and Latin America. Songwriter, MC and Engineer Erick Santero ignites the stage with his passionate delivery of Reggae, Hip Hop and Latin rhymes. Scheherazade Stone can fill any room with her rich R&B flavors and powerful stage presence. Liliana Herrera's blending of Latin American vocal traditions and Soul music is unequaled. Multi-instrumental guru Camilo Landau holds down the guitar, percussion, piano and horn sections. Miguel "DJ Mr E" Escobedo rounds out the five piece with his masterful turntable stylings. SANTERO incorporates classic African & Latin styles with modern technology and programming. SANTERO is known for its thick dubby bass assault and clean memorable melodies, the fusion of which creates an innovative blend of unconventional & contemporary musical sensibilities certain to get any crowd rocking. SANTERO recently recorded its debut CD Arawaks & Maroons with multi-Grammy nominated Producer Greg Landau.
Following in the footsteps of Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Miriam Makeba and Harry Belafonte, SANTERO was founded on the premise that music can transform society and create a fundamental shift in consciousness. SANTERO is a means of communication and translation, transforming energy into thought sound pattern rhythm and then back into energy again. SANTERO is a living document & living history. It is ancestor communication, an active dialogue with the spirit energy world. It is patience, work, struggle and humility. It is faith, compassion and LOVE.
