Description
Olympia Records is proud to announce the CD release of Underwater Land, the last music project completed by Shel Silverstein before his untimely death in 1999. Underwater Land is a collection of 17 childrens songs, written and produced by Silverstein and sung by his longtime friend and collaborator Pat Dailey, with performances by Silverstein on several tracks. The CDs 32-page booklet features
many previously unpublished Silverstein drawings.
Shel Silverstein (1930-1999), the renowned poet, illustrator, screenwriter, and songwriter, is best known for his immensely popular childrens books including The Giving Tree, Falling Up, and A Light in the Attic, which have entertained a worldwide audience and amassed sales in the tens of millions. A celebrated recording artist, Silverstein won the 1984 Grammy Award for Best Childrens Recording for his performance of Where the Sidewalk Ends.
Singer/songwriter Pat Dailey has released 13 acclaimed albums, and is a wintertime staple at Sloppy Joes, the Key West landmark. A popular veteran of the Midwest music scene, Dailey regularly performs to capacity crowds from Michigan to Florida. Close friends for over a decade, Silverstein and Dailey traveled to Nashville in 1997 to record Underwater Land. A regular in Nashville's music circles, Silverstein assembled some of that city's finest musicians, and produced the recordings.
Underwater Land is already being hailed as the most anticipated release of the year by the millions of Silverstein fans around the world. Sarah Weinman of the Shel Silverstein Archive calls it absolutely wonderful... [Silversteins] last hurrah... whether you are young, old, young at heart, or somewhere in between, get this album! Chicago Parent magazine featured UL in a feature article "The Last of Silverstein is a First Choice", calling it a "wonderfully creative and poignant recording, and Disneys Family Fun magazine enthused: "Lyrically marvelous, marvelously irreverent, and irreverently hilarious!" Underwater Land received a Parents Guide to Childrens Media award, and the Parents Choice Foundation has just awarded Underwater Land the prestigious 2003 Gold Award, its highest.
Dailey and Silversteins mutual love of the sea and songwriting magically unite in Underwater Land, where fish, lobsters and other sea characters sing, joke and make unforgettable underwater music. Brought to life by Daileys delightfully personable singing, Underwater Land is full of the irreverence and easy charm that have made Shel Silverstein one of the best-loved, and best-selling authors of all time.
