Description
Since their formation in December of 2004, The Skinny has gained a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in South Florida. Having been together for only a year, they have played almost every major club offering live music in Miami and have already released a full-length album of original material.
The Skinny consists of five ambitious musicians who joined together in Miami from the far reaches of the country. The group has used their jazz education at the University of Miami to explore and develop a unique sound as an original band. The product of their collective experience in jazz, R&B, funk and classic rock is a new breed of jam: neo-soul blues rock.
The Skinny is led by energetic, Alaska-born frontman Andrew Vait and is flanked by the soulful Evan Lamb from Miami on lead guitar/backup vocals and Texan Josh Sheiman on rhythm guitar. The bottom end is held down with lock-tight grooves from Bostonian Ben Kogan on bass and Adam Piccoli from New Jersey on drums.
Their varied backgrounds help lend to an eclectic mix of influences that are evident in The Skinnys original material and choice of covers. Artists that have had a noticeable impact on The Skinny include The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, Audioslave, The Beatles, Muse, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stevie Wonder.
