Description
Sound of Birds is a rock-art-trio based in Phoenix, Arizona, consisting of Michael Red (guitar/vocal), Olivier Zahm (guitar) and Justin White (drums). Sound of Birds began as a home recording project for Michael Red with the "so low" release on 56th Street Records in Feb of 2002.
The first solo performance of Sound of Birds was at the Paper Heart Gallery in Dec 2003 to a beautiful audience of 35 (a single shot dvd was produced of this show). Feb 2004 brought the completion of the second SOB disk, "eden", a seven song solo ep recorded at Phoenix's own Portal Records, bringing more agressive guitar tones and vocal shading than the first disc and a video for the single "sideshow" with the assistance of Steve Schneider and performances by Stephen Strange (magician master of the mystic arts) and Matti Baine (trapeze artist).
March 2004 brought Olivier Zahm into the fold with a wall of guitar feedback, and by April 2004, Justin White's position as SOB's drummer became secured. Two intense weeks of rehearsing brought the trio to their first public performance at the Emerald Lounge on April 21, 2004. They continue playing for most major art spaces that Phx has to offer. The recording for the current "Emerald EP" began at the Conservatory of Recording Arts in Tempe, AZ, and at Olivier's own Champagne Studio in mid 2004 (at the time located inside the Portal Records' space).
Sound of Birds is currently playing in Phoenix and the US Southwest, with a tour of the West Coast scheduled for the summer of 2005.
Michael Red also plays trombone for Phx based jazz fusion combo Sonorous (www.sonorous-live.com) and plays trombone and sings a little for power rock quintet, The Tijuana Poker Sharks (www.myspace.com/theworldfamoustijuanapoke). Justin also drums for the Phx College Jazz Ensemble, hip-hop act Shining Soul and the post-something When Words Fail. Olivier (www.myspace.com/spacedelay) awaits a call from you to produce your band's next cd when he's not performing the gretch solo. Support your local music!!
