Description
tambersauro was born of an intimate loss and an auricular error. the unexpected departure of jason jordan from both miracle versus man and timbre sorrow at the end of august 2003 left both bands defunct and their respective members high and dry. while pursuing musical therapy with experimental/improvisational project wall with one side, jeff price and lance higdon decided they wanted to take another stab at music with a (relatively) more traditional ensemble. since jordans departure had left the guitar slot open in miracle versus man and the drum seat open in timbre sorrow, they did some basic arithmetic and joined forces with timbre sorrow guitarist mike blackshear and began writing songs together in november. originally the group vowed to never take a name, not only with an eye towards bucking rock n roll convention, but intentionally fueling slight notoriety amongst flyer makers and name-dropping scenesters. lance got cold feet about such ambiguity, however, and began pressing for the adoption of a name. he suggested that they take up the name of jeff and mikes previous band. this would not have flown with the other two had not lance had the fortune of offering his mistakenly phonetic spelling of timbre sorrow: t-a-m-b-e-r-s-a-u-r-o. this name seemed sufficiently obscure and dark to suit the bands musical attack and was unanimously adopted. tambersauro also took on a not-inappropriately humorous layer of meaning when, after some cursory exploration of foreign language dictionaries, lance found that tambersauro translates roughly as drum-horse in italian.
their sound gives way to what they like to call avante garde jazz slash rock. moments of mellow streams of ambient textures followed by chaotic noise and mathematical jazz fusion with vocals chanting lyrics that will make you pick sides whether you know the issue or are pretending to know.
