Description
Third Rail Saxophone Quartet formed in 2001 in order to bring to life music by some of today's brightest young composers. Additionally, the group creates original versions of music from many styles, some associated with the saxophone (like jazz), and others not at all associated with saxophones (like bluegrass).
The members of Third Rail are all full time members of "The President's Own" Marine Band. "Third Rail Saxophone Quartet" is essentially a civilian alias, which allows for more adventurous programming (don't expect to hear any Sousa!), and looser fitting uniforms.
The CD Danger consists of three pieces by outstanding young composers (Lior Navok, Phanos Dymiotis, and Curtis Hughes) and four of our arrangements of bluegrass tunes interspersed. A huge swath of musical terrain is covered, but it is all contemporary American music.
