Biography
A good song is one that tells a story. A great band is one that seems to tell yours. Thomas Lane has crafted a sound that shares ambitions and indecisions with a sharpness that cuts into the audience from the first listen.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Thomas Lane is the anthemic convergence of Derek Wrobel, Ben Estes, and David Burleton. With honest songwriting and infectious stage presence, the music conveys experiences, perceptions, and regrets. "Simply put, music should make you feel," said Derek Wrobel. "I just hope that people find something in the lyrics, in a performance... in Thomas Lane, that makes them say 'that's how I feel.'"
The band has played to high acclaim throughout Wisconsin, including headlining the Midwest Acoustic Music Festival, and playing staples of the music scene such as BBC, Milwaukee Ale House, and Shank Hall. The hard work and dynamic performances resulted in an impressive 4 nominations for the Wisconsin Association Music Industry (WAMI) 2006 Awards. In Spring 2006, Thomas Lane will embark on a nationwide campus tour, playing colleges from Florida to Washington.
Currently, Thomas Lane has set aim on an ambitious project with Something to Hold Onto, their first full-length album. The experience has given guitarist Ben Estes the chance to bring another songwriter's point of view to the Thomas Lane catalog, refining many of the songs. Coupled with the solid talent of drummer Frank Babeck and bassist Mike Moss, the result is a fuller, more complete sound, while maintaining the spirit of a songwriter's record. "I feel like I learn more about who I am and the life around me by consciously trying to view it all through the lens of a songwriter," explains David Burleton. "That's what this album is out to capture for all of us."
