Description
"Waiting For You", released August 27, 2005 is the second CD from Todd Royce (aka Todd Royce Morton). While it shares an electric guitar focus with his first effort, this album brings a cleanly recorded acoustic guitar to the center of half the songs. Here's what it sounds like in the artist's words:
"It's an organic sounding record. We recorded it in my home studio, which the drummer and I built. We got a natural, ambient "room" sound. Like my first CD, the songs are pop, rock, and blues-rock, with some jazz influence. But on this record I played a lot of acoustic guitar, so I guess you could say there's a folk-rock element, as well. There are quite a few electric guitar solos, but not in every song. The guitar "soloing", or line playing on this record functions more like a second voice in a lot of cases, weaving between the vocals in a call and response fashion. And I tried to use more guitar layers [tracks] to capture what might have otherwise been played by a keyboard or horns. I'm a fan of the power-trio sound, but on this record I wanted to take a layered, subliminal approach with guitar parts. The lyrics for this record deal with universal themes in a personal way in some cases, and a more impressionistic/abstract one in others. The disc has a lot to hear and, while volume-wise it's nice and loud, it's also very easy on the ears thanks to some fine mixing and mastering work."
