Description
Twohawks is the Director and founder of the Native American Flute Circle of Louisiana, Vice-President of Louisiana Indian Heritage Association (retired), Louisiana State Governor of the American Metis Aboriginal Association National Lodge( retired)the Ceremonial leader of the Tickfaw River Band of the Louisiana Metis Bear Clan and an active member of the International Native American Flute Association since 1998.
This album is produced by Harold Cowart of John Fred and the Playboys and Judy in Disguise fame. Harold has played with the Bee-Gee's Kenny Rogers, and Dolly Parton (Islands in the Stream) as well as many other world famous musicians. Harold is a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and owns and operates Bluff Road Recording Studio in Prairieville, La. Twohawks and Harold developed a relationship that has continued on even after the recording of this album. They continue to be friends and are currently working together on a second CD to be released sometime in 2006.
This CD Sends a Voice was engineered by Paul Kauk a wonderful guy with a ear for putting the correct sound in just the right place. The work of Twohawks, Harold, and Paul all working together on this CD is what has made this the most unforgetable Album you will have in your collection.
The nightmare caused by Hurricane Katrina/Rita in Louisiana might be the single most important event that brought about the completion of this C/D. Our state lost people, places and things that will never be recovered. During some reflective time in the aftermath of Katrina/Rita Twohawks came to realize that life can be fine one day and completely devastated the next. Not that he did not know this but knowing it and seeing it first hand are somehow different. People went to work the day before Katrina and Rita just as they always do. The day after Katrina and Rita not only did they not have a job, they had no place to go to work and no home to live in if they could work. Lives, businesses, home, and cities were completely destroyed. Think about that for a moment.
Twohawks has wanted to do this C/D for a long time and his family and friends have been after him to do it but he
procrastinated. So as they say out of everything bad comes something good. And the good is that he has done what his family and friends wanted and Katrina and Rita helped to put things in perspective. Doing it sooner is better than not being able to do it at all. We are happy that he has done it because it is really a great CD.
Thanks to Charlie Crow Dog Myers Chief of the Tickfaw River Band of Louisiana Metis for his excellent work with the Drums and the Didgeridoo. His magical abilities have given a lot of life to this album.
Thanks to Douglas Spotted Eagle for Voices of Native America.
Song number 1 Drums of fire is one of Twohawks favorite tracks. The flute is played with some over blows, flutters, and barks. The drums are full and alive making the entire track one that you will listen to again and again.
Song number 3 is the Title Track and it is named after his youngest granddaughter. Her name is Ryan "Sends A Voice" This track has been the track most of the ladies seem to really like.
Track number 6 is played with the N/A flute a Djembe and the Didgeridoo instruments from America, Africa, and Australia thus All my Relations. Crow Dog outdoes himself on this track. Really cool. Lots of life in this one.
Track number 8 Dreams is
Twohawks favorite. It is supposed to give you the feeling you are in a dream state. In those far away canyons of your mind. During the dream you loose the flute player and it causes you to search for him and eventually you hear him off in the distance and then he is back. If you listen closely the last thing you hear is a gasp of breath as you wake up from the dream startled.
Number 9 Is on here because Twohawks Good Friend and Blood Brother Byron Thunder Bear asked that he put it on the C/D for him and It was done. It is a remake of an old sunrise song.
Track 10 pays tribute to Hawk,Crow and Hummingbird.
Track 11 is Bear Hawk named after Twohawks Grandson Luke Bear Hawk. Listen closely and about I:56 minutes into the track you will hear the flutter of Hawk taking flight and at the end of the track you can hear the growling of Bear. Very catchy tune that has become very popular.
Track 13 is Evening Thunder, which is the oldest Granddaughters name Sydney Evening Thunder. This is a very old Comanche Hymn that was re-done for the album. It is also the song Twohawks have always sung to his grandchildren when putting them to sleep. A Kiowa/Comanche lady gave the song to him and told him her mother sang it to her as a child. The words are somewhat different than the original song but this is the way it was taught to Twohawks.
Track 14 A tribute to all the relatives.
The remainder of the tracks are all wonderfully moving tracks. Great mixtures of nature, flute, and drums.
This is a CD that you will listen to over and over again. You are going to want this album in your collection of Native American Music.
