The Mona Lisa EP
Your Horrible Smile
Sounding something like Jeff Buckley fronting Fishbone at the top of their groove game, Hollywood power-trio, Your Horrible Smile, mixes its melodic hard rock approach with Stevie Wonder-esque neo-soul funk and indie-Brit rock fervor

Description
Its hard to classify Your Horrible Smile; a loud, dirty, melodic & often quite sensitive rock band from lovely downtown Los Angeles, CA. Theyd rather you say theyre an indie sort of rock band. Were not metal & were not punk...nor are we some soft-spoken Coldplay derivative, states singer Ryan Hanifl adamantly.
Despite their differing backgrounds, Your Horrible Smile fuses many influences into one cohesive sound. The music is a representation of the best aspects of their heroes, possessing the tightness & drudge of Queens of the Stone Age, the tenacity of The Doors, and the off-kilter arrangements of Soundgarden, Bowie, & even Pink Floyd.
Kyle Robarges thunderous, tight bass lines provide the backbone to the bands music. Guitarist Jason Mezilis evokes a more classic style, one that evokes early 70s rock: long hair, dirt under the fingernails, barefoot & disheveled. The band is held together by Ryan Hanifls lyrical & tenacious vocals. Ryan can channel the likes of Scott Weiland and Jim Morrison in performance, but both his tone and range remains uniquely his.
Your Horrible Smile is unapologetic in the performance of their music. The energy and intensity with which they play separates them from the regular run-of-the-mill bands of today. A [YHS] performance will first draw you in, and then later you will discover it is their songs that solidify their credibility. Each song has its own unique structure while still seeming familiar to the listener. Shot at the Title is an all out rock track, while a song like Sons and Daughters of War is more epic in scope, both musically and lyrically. And then there are songs like In My Head, songs that blur the line between ballads and rock anthems.
Your Horrible Smile is a contradiction of sorts; possessing unique artistry while remaining universally appealing. And that contradiction even finds its way into the bands merchandise: stickers and t-shirts displaying the phrase I [Love] Your Horrible Smile, a motto any music fan will proudly display upon hearing the bands music.
