Description
Zagnutt came together in the Lincoln Lounge in the fall of 1999 with guitarist Erik White and singer Dave-O Whitston. Soon thereafter, rhythm guitarist Nat Greenspan, drummer Gary Vitagliano, and percussionist Darin 'Duane' Mclean joined the mix. That gave Zagnutt the flavor they were looking for. Groovemaster bassist Mikey 'Mr Fingers' Farrington joined the band in early 2000. Zagnutts rather appropriate live debut was at the Taste of Allston Village festival at Scullers in May of 2001. Best enjoyed with a cold beverage, Zagnutt proved they were ready for prime time, or suppertime, or just about anytime. The mix of blues, funk, jazz and good ol rock and roll proved delicious. Two months following their debut, (the summer of 2001), they recorded their debut CD Mexegovia followed by a series of acclaimed live shows at Harpers Ferry in Allston, MA. For next two years the Nutts honed their craft, keeping a local show schedule and cranking out the original tunes. In the summer of 2003, Nat left the band to pursue his MBA. Shortly thereafter, keyboardist, longtime friend and collaborator Ray Crandall joined the band full time. In August and September of 2003, Zagnutt played two shows at the Hard Rock Caf in Boston to a capacity crowd. Tragically, Ray passed away in October 2003. Regrouping from this great loss, the band vowed to continue on in Rays spirit of reckless abandon. Early in 2004 Shelly Berube signed on with some killer keys to round out the sound. Reinvigorated, Zagnutt pushed ahead towards their sophomore CD, 'Help is on the Way!', so open your ears wide, and enjoy!
