Description
Darryl was born in Brook Park, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland where the railroad tracks lead from the steel mills of Lorain to the Ford plant by the airport; where there really wasn't much to do except hop the trains, play music and drink beer. He learned to play guitar in a basement rock band and trombone in the high school marching band and drums while selling paint at SEARS... There is a connection in all that somewhere.
He performs in NYC as a solo singer/songwriter on guitar. He likes to write a good story that can be conveyed by the music. His melodies reflect his classical training and his CD, Cold Comfort Songs , shows that he has a wide range of possibilites to carry these words to an audience. He has played such venues as: Eureka Joe, Sidewalk Cafe, Baggot Inn, The Cutting Room, CBGB's Gallery, The Orange Bear, The Lion's Den, Kenny's Castaway... the list goes on...
Along other musical lines of thought, Darryl is co-founder of The Sa-Reel Project with composer Sasha Bogdanowitsch. The mission of the new ensemble is to compose new works for an array of world instruments, Western instruments and found objects (basically anything that makes a sound) and to combine the compositional philosophies of pop-world-avant that both Sasha and Darryl have absorbed.
