Description
The Music
Music to move you and make you move, Kiss the Girls music conveys passion, sexuality and mystery. Their new album, "Touch," is a celebration of feeling and being alive, an expression of the extreme highs and lows that we all experience if we have the courage to feel. The album art features the word 'touch' in nine different languages over an image of two lovers, to convey the message that our need for intimacy and connection is something shared by people of all backgrounds.
The first track, "Alive," which has already been licensed to appear on an ABC Family Channel TV show this summer, is a perfect example of the album's message. The lyrics tell the story of people caught in the grip of depression and disillusionment, reaching out for some kind of faith and hope, and refusing to give in to despair. "My little sister got a messed up head/and all the day she while away in bed/she said, 'I know there's somethin'/gotta believe there's somethin'/my friends are nowhere, it may not be fair/but you can only suck it up and live it'..."
The chorus then kicks with a powerful attack and a vocal declaration of, "I, I, I feel so alive/I, I, I feel so alive today!" Better to feel pain sometimes than to avoid life and feel nothing. At least you know you're alive.
Another song, "Ride," is sung to a potential lover, who stands on the brink of change, unsure and seeking to gain the courage to leave behind the safe and familiar. The background mantra, "Get your body right tonight" and "Get your mind right tonight," sung by a sensual female voice, coax the potential lover like a siren to leap into the unknown - a total lust for life. The words and music convey a mysterious nighttime rendezvous and the sensuality of speeding in a car at night, as well as mythical metaphors reminiscent of T-Rex or the writings of Thomas DeQuincey. "My engine's humming, your blood is pumping/Get your body right tonight/My wheels are rolling, your hair is flowing/Get your body right tonight/And in your eyes the phoenix rising/ Get your body right tonight/And you're the only one I'm realizing/So get it right/Come alive/Come and ride." The music has a mysterious ambience and spacious sound, with a driving hypnotic guitar riff and a soulful rhythm that spins further and further out of control toward a dizzying crescendo.
Kiss the Girl explore the deep, primal passions, desires and behavior that truly drive our lives, those feelings and motivations that lie at the heart of being human.
The Men
Kiss the Girl is comprised of two San Francisco artists - Robert Szeles (pronounced saylesh) and Jaimeson Durr. Together they produce a unique sound that blends rock and electronica with a driving sensual beat: Passionate Sexy Rock meets the Urban Underground.
As a team, Szeles & Durr wear complementary hats - Szeles is the singer/songwriter/guitarist while Durr is the engineering wizard behind the tracks, as well as an accomplished lead guitarist. Their original productions have been described as "unabashedly sexy" and "fresh and irresistible."
Kiss the Girls first EP, "Say Goodbye to the 20th Century" was released in 2000 and received radio play in 18 states and six European countries. The self-titled follow-up album, released in 2002, flirted with a more stripped-down band sound. Now the duo finds they are back again to their real love of blending rock instrumentation with heavy beats and samples in an atmosphere that is lyrically provocative and musically seductive.
