Description
Michael Ronstadt has studied cello for twelve years, and is comfortable with a wide range of musical styles, spanning from his main focus of Classical to Blue Grass, South American, Latin and Rock. Michael has given recitals throughout Arizona, into New Mexico, Colorado and Sonora, Mxico. He is currently a member of the University of Arizona Symphony, the Four Corners String Quartet, the Rillito Duo with Aryo Wicaksono on piano, the Impromptu String Duo with cellist Kenneth Stewart, TG Express with Falina Enriquez , the Andean music group Alborada, and the Mike Ronstadt Trio (Father: Michael J. Ronstadt; Brother: Peter Ronstadt). New ensembles formed recently while in Aspen include Nothing Yet (A Cello Duo with Oberlin cellist, Gabrielle Athayde), and The Young Frankensteins, Featuring Watts and Ronstadt (Guitar/Cello duo with Aspen guitarist, Tripp Watts). He also performs with Ronstadt, Ramirez and the Santa Cruz River Band, when possible.
Michael works as a local studio musician throughout Tucson , Arizona . He is the string reference for The Nail Recording Studio, owned by Mike Zecchino and has collaborated with such artists as Judy Nicholson and Dean Maier. He has recorded under the expertise of Jim Brady Recording Studio for Bobby Ronstadt, Ronstadt, Ramirez and the Santa Cruz River Band, a local independent film score, among others. Michael also collaborates with artists at Allusion Studios, run by Jim Pavett, including Amber Norgaard.
Michael Ronstadt is currently finishing his Bachelors in Music, graduating May 2006, in cello performance at the University of Arizona with Nelzimar Neves. The last three years, he studied with acclaimed cellist, Nancy Green. He also continues to collaborate with long time pedagogue Dr. Gordon Epperson, with whom he studied for 8 years. The last two summers he has attended the Aspen Music Festival and School, studying with Yehuda Hanani of Cincinnati and William Grubb of Butler University . Next fall, he will begin work towards his Master of Music in Cello Performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, under the instruction of Yehuda Hanani.
In addition to cello, Michael has also played guitar for 9 years, learning from Mr. Valenzuela (Mariachi teacher at Davis Elementary, Tucson, AZ). Michael has also played Charango since 1999 and learned from Carlos Armendariz and Robert Colville. He utilizes his guitar and charango skills, in addition to cello, with the South American Group, Alborada. Guitar is equally used with the duo, TG Express, and his former guitar-based ensemble includes Desert Rain (1997-2002 w/ Jonathan Confer), a guitar duo.
