Description
"Comes The Light" has now been #1 on the charts of mytunetopia.com in both the Blues and Overall categories for two weeks! The guitar tracks on all but "Shaky Ground" Live with Kenny Baker and The Dream - studio are performed by Leon Taylor. The Shaky Ground track was recorded live at JJ's Blues Cafe in Mountain View, CA with Mike Robles on guitar, Mona Leigh on bass and vocals, Scott Lamantia on drums and the amazing Kenny Baker from the John Lee Hooker Band on a smoking Saxophone solo.
Mona, Kenny and Mike performed together for a number of years in the SF Bay Area in the late 80s and early 90s. Sadly, Kenny Baker passed away some years ago, so this is a little tribute to one of the hottest sax players and most genuinely nice people you would have ever wanted to meet. We love you Kenny and hope you and Stevie Ray are kickin' out the tunes up there somewhere...jam on!!
The first track, "Comes The Light" is not your typical 'I struggled and made it through' tune...it's dark and mysterious...with Leon Taylor's magnificent guitar style shining through and set high in the mix...cause great guitar should be heard, not buried.
Song 2, Guilty, written by Randy Newman is short and sweet, perfect blues done with feeling as the blues must be.
Song 3, "The Dream" is the studio cut of Mo's favorite original tune...full of sweet dreams and the promise of tomorrow...guitar tracks courtesy of Guy Stacy, Yachat's Oregon.
Song 4 Lennon-McCartney's "In My Life" is performed for my true biological father...we only got to be together a few times in this life, but as with all little girls and their dads, he's the love of my life.
Song 5 is the live club version with Kenny Baker...bet ya can't sit still for this one ;o)
Song 6 is from the upcoming box set due out on 10/31/06 and is what I call Celtic inspired blue pop centered on one people, one planet, one love...Happy listening from Mo in the little studio in the magical rainforests of coastal Oregon...
