Drive-by Romance
Sherry Austin
A fine and welcome debut in the tradition of california singer/songwriters, think of Kate Wolf with a honky-tonk band.

Description
An unknown as recently as two years ago, Sherry Austin has opened for Fred Eaglesmith, Ray Wilie Hubbard, Chuck Brodsky, Iris Dement, Toni Price, Slaid Cleaves, and Amy Rigby. Things started heating up for Sherry upon the release of her demo disc, Hump Day Roses. Her debut CD, Drive By Romance, is fanning the flames even higher.
"Sherry's music is a rewarding listen," says the legendary Lloyd Maines. "With fresh melodies and believable lyrics, I'll have to include it in my road trip collection. Cool voice, also!"
A self-avowed "Fredhead," Sherry performs a number of Fred Eaglesmith's tunes, in addition to singer/songwriters like Slaid Cleaves, Robert Earl Keen, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Her obsession with Eaglesmith's music lead to her first industry break. Sherry's rendition of Eaglesmith's Drive-in Movie can be heard on the Fred Eaglesmith tribute CD, 20 Odd Hollers, now in its second pressing. Her recording has attracted the attention of critics, radio programmers and bookers.
Sherry is equally skilled at writing and performing her own compositions. She was a finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition, sponsored by MARS Music. She has enjoyed Best Performer status at Northern California Songwriter Association (NCSA) open mics, and also won Honorable Mention in Billboard's International Songwriting Contest. Sherry's CD includes her award-winning songs Baby Blue Bonneville and Sapphire Sky, five more originals, and four covers.
Drive-By Romance was released on Sherry's own Barking Topiary Records label and was recorded at Rancho Armadillo Recorders in Aptos, California.
A San Francisco native, Sherry Austin grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her move to the wooded Santa Cruz Mountains was "the best thing that ever happened to me" and to lovers of honest Americana music and honey-drenched voices, as well.
