Description
A native Chicagoan,flutist/singer/songwriter Suki Rae has been performing music since the age of five.A classically trained flutist,she has an MA in Music/Film and has been performing internationally for the last 20 years.Awards include:the only American finalist in the Hoiellart Jazz Festival in Belgium;ASCAP Awards since 1994; Honorary Award in Great American Song Festival;Runner Up Song of the Year Award;Viewer's Choice Award at Kweevak.com;American Song Festival;Nashville Song Festival and nominations for NAR Awards and Just Plain Folks Awards.Performances include:Universal Jazz Coalition's Women in Jazz;Michigan Women's Music Festival;San Francisco Women's Music Festival;Jerusalem Womens' Music Festival;St.Peter's Church;and MUNY's Texaco Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival.
She has been musician in residence at:Cornell University;Arad Arts Project in Arad,Israel;Hilai Arts Colony in Mitzpe Ramon and Ma'alot Tarshiha,Israel;the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos,New Mexico;Fundacion Valparaiso in Mojacar,Spain; and Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado.
She has written songs in all styles of music ranging from jazz,rock,pop,gospel,comedy,instrumental,etc.In April 2003 one of her children's songs was published in "The Music Box and Other Delights."She has also acted,directed and written for theatre and films as well as appearing on radio and TV.
Her recordings include:Pipedreams;(jazz/New Age)Water and Fire(jazzy/ethnic world/New Age);Cantique de Noel(Christmas songs); and newly released I Think of You(pop/rock) and My Bamboo Hat(comedy/children's); all of which she produced on Reverence for Life Records.All recordings contain solely original music except Cantique de Noel(favorite Christmas songs).On her recordings, in addition to songwriting,she plays flute,sings,plays keyboards,etc.
