After a performance at The 2006 Snowbird Rock & Blues Festival, opening for legendary blues guitarists Johnny Winter and Walter Trout, a friend remarked that Andrew Goldring had " . . . taken Snowbird over his knee and gave it a good spanking." People who have never seen or heard Andrew perform before are not surprised by his playing . . . it's more like they are SHOCKED that a fresh-faced 14-year-old kid who barely measures 5 feet tall can sing and play the blues with such passion and skill. Raised in a home filled with roots music and gospel and surrounded by incredible musicians all his life, Andrew was destined for the spotlight. Since picking up the guitar at age, 9, he's never looked back. And now the road ahead of him seems as promising as it does grueling.
A video of Stevie Ray Vaughan performing on Austin City Limits was the catalyst for Andrew to start exploring the blues at age 11. He learned Hendrix's Voodoo Child in the 5th grade, performed it to an amazed audience of parents and kids and knew he could do this. Years down the road, he's now in the 9th grade . . . still 2 years too young to drive and a full 7 years shy of getting into a blues club in most states. He's been performing at festivals and barbecue joints and all ages blues jams all over Utah for the past year with his band, The Rosedale Power Co..
Joining Andrew, who holds down vocals and guitar, are Eric Lindquist, who lends his John McVie (of Fleetwood Mac and Mayall's Bluesbreakers) inspired bass runs and hyperkinetic stage presence to the band. Wes Whorton funks up the drums and adds a little Motown to the blues power trio soundscape. Together they form one of the most formidable rhythm sections in the Utah blues scene. At first acting as supporting players for Andrew's wailing guitar, Eric and Wes have become integral parts of The Rosedale Power Co. as the band has tightened and polished their set.
Drawing on influences such as Freddie and Albert King, Earl Hooker, Joe Bonamassa, Clapton, SRV, Hendrix, Robert Johnson and even modern blues-rock sounds like The Black Keys and Wolfmother, Andrew's songwriting continues to evolve and improve.
Andrew Goldring & The Rosedale Power Co., the band's debut CD released earlier this summer, has exploded onto the Utah music scene. Receiving regular airplay on local independent radio stations, the CD has sold briskly and plans for a reprint are forthcoming.
