Reviews from American Record Guide:
"The ensemble Aguava New Music offers several important works on its ..."Itineraries of the Night." Three of the six selections are by composer Cary Boyce ... in his very brief but absolutely stunning Ave Maria, Boyce's lush vocal polyphony and his careful control of harmony enable this work to stand alongside the best music in this veinthe propulsive rhythms of Nightshade for string quartet also help to maintain attention. The selection is beautifully played by the Corigliano Quartet. Takemitsu's Toward the Sea, for flute and guitar, has become an important chamber work for those instruments. Taking for its inspiration the night and the sea, the music is descriptive and ethereal, and Takemitsu again proves that he is a master of tone-painting. And twelve-tone enthusiasts will no doubt salivate over Webern's 3 Lieder, Op. 18
American Record Guide
Aguav is easily one of the most impressive new music ensembles in America today, and I look forward with impatience to their next recording.
Ivan Moody, International Record Review, May 2003
Boyce's setting of the Marian Ave Maria is as close to a masterpiece as you can come in four minutes.
