Description
Albany Down based in Leicester, UK, was formed when songwriters Keith Martin (vocals) and David Swinfen (bass) first collaborated (see Band History). After playing a few gigs as a three-piece with Alex Hall on percussion, Albany Down is now complete with formidable guitarists Chris Reynolds and Paul Turley joining the band and are active on the London touring circuit. New singer Rick Abbs joined this year and adds his own edge to their perfomances.
The Albany sound is 50% British Indy and 50% West Coast rock, quite 80's in places, but with a vintage heartfelt sensitivity and contemporary aggressive energy. Influences include Guns N Roses, Stone Roses, The Verve, The Rolling Stones and Rage against the Machine. The band are becoming increasingly popular in Europe after being featured on a snowboarding video, and their debut record deserves to be a commercial success.
