Description
"Mixing a blend of pop tracks with deep, meaningful lyrics and an engaging voice, Al Lay has found a formula that is able to captivate listeners and give them something to grow on in the process "
Undaground Productions, January 2002
Currently working on new projects in the recording studio, singer/songwriter Al Lay continues to have online success with his debut solo album, "Life", first released in January 2002. This year, Als song I Wonder was featured in the film Backstage Pass. Last February, Al was one of Songoftheyear.coms Suggested Artists for his song "Devotion."
In 2002, "Perfect World", the opening track on "Life", won in the Best Contemporary Pop category in the Unsigned War Contest. Also that year, "Perfect World" was chosen for SBS Records Indie Music Sampler Volume 5, which was distributed to more than 15,000 people worldwide.
Even before his album was released, Al was one of eight finalists in the Yahoo! Internet Life Online Music Awards Best Unsigned Artist Contest, co-sponsored by Starpolish.com. More than 4,000 bands competed in the contest. Al also was named one of the Best Indie Artists/Emerging Bands in the December 2001 issue of Lip Service Magazine, a national music trade publication delivered to more than 8,000 industry executives.
Al has been writing and playing music for more than 20 years. Although he plays most of the instruments used on "Life," he excels on the bass guitar. Al also produces, engineers and mixes all of his songs.
After graduating from college with a bachelors degree in music and audio recording, the Manhattan Beach, Calif., native worked at one of Los Angeles finest recording studios. As a staff engineer at A&M Studios, Al had the opportunity to use his vocal and instrumental skills to record with some major-label artists. Some of his collaborations include: singing back up vocals for the punk band MXPX (A&M/Tooth And Nail Records), singing a duet with Chantal Kreviazuk (Sony Music Canada), and playing bass with Black Sabbath (Sony Music).
