Description
We could get into the formidable math of the combined years of experience of the NYC-based trio Barnacle Bill, but let's just say that for them, striving for greatness is unfinished business. And because it all starts with a few first steps, Barnacle Bill present their first CD, Towards The Pebbled Shore (co-produced with Pete Min), released in 2006 on their Y Eye Music label.
"This is great stuff. A nice mix of instrumentation and skillful writing deliver an album's worth of catchy songs, expertly sung. A home run, through and through..."
Alan Haber, host of Pure Pop, WEBR, Fairfax, VA
Their songs are firmly ensconced in the pop rock and power pop genres, both straight ahead and gentle, with faithful emphasis on accessible vocal melodies and harmonies, a foundation of electric guitars and an anglophilic rhythm section (it helps that their drummer hails from Sussex, UK). Songs hint at the influence of the Beatles through to Weezer, sometimes invoking the sounds of a vocal combo, breezy and bouncy pop, or the energy of rock. Touches of keyboards (by special musical guest Carla Capretto) and acoustic guitar on a few songs further broaden the record's stylistic bandwidth.
With the record completed, Barnacle Bill will again play live; locally at first, in Manhattan's lower east side and in Brooklyn, a demanding circuit that compels the band to bring out its creative best. Bassist Yianni Naslas and guitarist Stuart Klinger trade lead vocal roles and backups, and drummer Steve Wickins adds a third harmony, making Barnacle Bill greater than the sum of its parts.
Band:
Yianni Naslas - bass, vocals
Stuart Klinger - guitars, vocals
Steve Wickins - drums, vocals
