Description
Brompton's Cocktail was an "art rock" band active in New York City around the turn of the century. Often described as theatrical, eclectic, progressive, "interesting," and on occasion, "that's how it's supposed to be done, motherf**ker!" They are named after a medication occasionally used in hospice settings: diamorphine; cocaine; gin; sugar syrup; and chlorpromazine syrup. Highly addictive, very uplifting, very analgesic.
Music That Keeps You Happy Until You Die!
Though there's definitely a unifying feel to the band's repertoire, the musical styles on Take On An Empty Mind do indeed vary greatly from song to song.
"Destroy New York" is a mix of metal and new wave reflecting on the popularity of disaster movies.
"Kabonkers" is a bluegrass funk song about talking cows.
"Skeleton" is a morality play duet for heavy metal and piano.
"Spontaneous Human Combustion" is disco meets Andrew Lloyd Weber. Something to do with the Loch Ness Monster.
"Poolside" is an acoustic ballad with an 80's feel about sexuality and drowning.
"Ethan In Space" is the tale of... well, a man in a cardboard refrigerator box floating through the void.
"Paper Towels" is accordion funk, with la la la's.
And "Juggler" is odd-time prog rock for laying waste to armies.
