Description
Bye-Bye Johnny is one person, Bruce R. He has been around forever, left duct tape in lotsa bars and clubs, been hit on by your sister, or brother and now does limited live performances. For the past several years Bruce has concentrated his musical efforts into songwriting and digital recording.
Bruce writes, performs, produces, engineers, blah, blah, blah all the Bye-Bye Johnny creations. Wow, just like Prince, I suppose.
Bye-Bye Johnny music is hard to describe. The music is unique, the lyrics are dark, pointed, and funny in a gee, that hurts kinda way. Jon Kanis, Grammy nominated artist and host of San Diego's popular BZoO radio program takes a shot. "Songs For Big Kidz* is unlike anything I have ever heard, and I can't seem to get it out of my head". Work For Music record label in San Francisco says "Tarantino should hear this stuff. I'll bet he would use it in one of those driving through the desert alone scenes". Dana Hooton of the Creative Underground in the Midwest goes on to say "I have heard plenty of Indie releases that are great, but besides being wonderfully eclectic, Bye-Bye Johnny has a particular talent that is rare. The ability to create truly original music. Just when I think I have heard it all".
In mid June, 2006 Bruce was invited to participate in a songwriters seminar and perform at the Steel Bridge SongFest in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The week long event included several national artists. The festival culminated in a performance by Jackson Browne. Mr. Browne invited Bruce and several other songwriters onstage (in an impromptu stroke of genius) to collaborate on a Steel Bridge SongFest theme song. After approximately 25 minutes of pure joy, adrenaline, creativity and the help of 6 to 7,000 screaming fans, the theme song was born. This and all the other weeks highlights were captured by a documentary crew for a future DVD release.
