Description
"He was on the darkest road..." (opening line of Show Them Where to Begin, Track 13 on' Undercover'.) Seems an appropriate start to describe the roller coaster journey of David Gibbs. Classical guitar lessons at age 7, followed with self taught piano, aided by his older sister. He had stacks of secular songs collecting dust, "As far back as I can remember." Raised in southern Michigan in the 60's and 70's,, his lifestyle has been influenced all over the map. He has worked with various bands, but always felt "at home" writing solo material. He eventually settled in the great state of Texas "Where I have been longer than anywhere else,... thirty years now."
That once dark road, has become a well-lit pathway that the Lord leads him down step by step. The Lord Jesus Christ has given him a ton of songs recently, some of which are on 'Undercover', and many others waiting in the wings for future projects. His music is aimed at encouraging everyone. He has a burden for Christians and nonbelievers alike and hopes that the testimonies of his songs would re-enforce their faith.
David is a solo artist who writes and arranges his own material. On 'Undercover', he does vocals, piano on half of the songs, and multiple guitar tracks on most of the songs. His Texas born wife, Dawn plays bass guitar (backwards and upside down) throughout as well as some backup vocals. The studio backup here are members of the Amelang family. Andrew, Cheryl, and son John, (AKA SirenSound Productions).
Writer, John Mach, expresses....There are rare people in one's life of whom one could say are possessed of greatness. And this greatness expresses itself in a very humble and matter-of-fact manner. There is nothing ostentatious about such a person they quite simply, with all their natural human foibles in attendance, are the sum total of their native talent which, it just so happens, is extraordinary. David Gibbs both as a musician and a lyric poet is just such a person . . . Through many a trial and temptation Davids quiet but firm faith sustained him until he reached safe harbor. I hope you'll be as pleased as I am now to hear the work of this fine artist at last.
