Description
Singer/Songwriter Annie Dinermans lyrics reveal a frank, funny and very female point of view. Her contemporary acoustic pop songs first came to national attention when three of her songs were recorded by popular New York vocalist Nancy LaMott. Annies songs were soon covered by other artists including Kathie Lee Gifford and Cybill Shepherd. After taking several years off from performing to focus on her songwriting, Dinerman's standing in the spotlight again at last. In June, Dinerman made her debut at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas as a finalist in the Music To Life Songwriting Competition. In September, she showcased at the Independent Music Convention in Philadelphia, where she was interviewed live by Philly DJ Dr. Lou, who played "Magdalena, No" and discussed Annie's career.
Annie Dinerman's new CD, "1,001 American Nights", features her early songwriting in a collection of 13 intimate story songs from the mouths of diverse urban women dealing with their closest relationships.
She is excited about her current recording project, an EP of her very newest songs, with noted producer Steve Addabbo (Susanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Sonya Kitchell). "I'm writing the songs as we go along," she offers, "so I won't have time to learn defenses and hide my emotions when I sing these songs." The vocals are have a rougher sound, more pop, and the writing is a return to the passionate songs she wrote and sang when she was 19, but with more structure.
It's not as easy to be open," she admits, "the longer you're in the world, the more you learn to protect yourself. It's important to me to make music that comes from the most tender part of my heart, even if that's not the easiest way." The EP is slated for release in early 2007. But you can own and hear "1,001 American Nights" right now.
