Description
Down Lo formed when Northfield, MN natives Mark Grundhoefer (guitar, vocals) and Ryan Nielsen (bass) started jamming together in the summer of 2000 with good friend and drummer Casey Wasner. After playing many shows together in the Northfield area, the three parted ways in the fall of 2001 to pursue their own musical careers.
After touring extensively with the band One Fluid Ounce, Ryan returned to the Twin Cities in the fall of 2002 and he and Mark, then playing with the band Gates Avenue, continued where they had left off a year before. In the winter of the same year the two met and began practicing with drummer Logan Schutts and Juggernaut keyboardist Will Nissen (keyboards, sax, vocals), then students at Carleton College in Northfield.
After several months of writing and rehearsing in a boiler room the band played their first show under the name Down Lo at a Farmhouse party on the Carleton College campus. Following Logan's graduation the band was without a drummer until the introduction of Prone drummer and Michigan native Mike Cini (drums).
The band has remained unchanged since then and has played countless bars, festivals, clubs and parties over the past 2 years with many national and local acts throughout the Midwest and Rocky Mountain region. The band now lives together in St Paul, MN and hopes to continue what they are doing for years to come.
Down Lo strives above all to give their fans a break from the rigors of their daily lives, and to provide a personal and spiritual release through music in the presence and companionship of friends and family. The band has been known to play for hours without breaks and give their all in every live performance.
