Description
Veteran dub producer Adam 'Vudu' Sloan is at it again on 'dubstyle'. This time out, it's a melding of analog and digital worlds, taking the best from each of course. The follow-up to 'roots dub', the new 'dubstyle' album bumps up the tempo, adds subtle electronic/live beats, piles on more effects, and has more variety and musicianship (not to take anything away from the previous release - it's nice too!). There are still plenty of live instruments, and live mixdowns in the analog domain on a big old mixing board, with effects acrobatics just not possible in the computer world. The result: a masterful album, deeper than deep; play it loud!
"Slowed" bonus tracks: Innovative mixes where the songs are deepened and slowed, as popularized in hip-hop by DJ Screw.
Sounds like: the best of what we like about dub from the 1970's with a few acknowledgements to the 2000's thrown in to keep things fresh.
Musical references/indebted to: Scientist, King Tubbys, Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor
